Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300)

This visa allows people to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse.

If you are granted this visa, you should marry your prospective spouse and apply for a Partner (subclasses 820 and 801) visa before your Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) expires.

Length of stay: The visa lasts 9 months from the date it is granted. It cannot be extended.

1. Eligibility:

1.1 You must:

-         Intend to marry your prospective spouse

-         Have met and know your prospective spouse

-         Be at least 18 years of age.

1.2 Age:

You must be 18 years old or older when you apply for the visa.

1.3 Your relationship:

Your relationship with your prospective spouse must meet certain criteria.

You must be the prospective spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

You and your prospective spouse must:

-         Know and have met each other in person since both turning 18

-         Not be related

-         Intend to marry within nine months of the visa being granted

-         Intend to live as spouses after you are married.

-         Not be married to anyone when a decision is made on your visa application.

2. This visa lets you:

-         Travel to and stay in Australia for up to nine months

-         Work in Australia

-         Study in Australia at your own expense

-         Travel outside Australia as many times as you want. There is important information for New Zealand citizens.

3. ​Family:

You can include your dependent children or stepchildren in your application.

If you are granted the visa, your children will have the same rights and visa conditions as you.

4. ​Your obligations:

You should marry your prospective spouse and apply for a Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801) before the Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) expires.

You and your children must comply with Australian laws and your visa conditions.
